We
have completely gone through this unit. Refurbished and ready to go, Sanyo Beta
VCR for dubbing your tapes to hard drive, DVD or VHS of just for watching them.
All of it's mechanics have been serviced. The entire
transport cleaned and re-lubed and now all works great. We replaced the
typically troublesome fast wind / take-up idler tire and belt, so Play Take-up,
FF & REW work great which ultimately means it won't eat your tapes! One great
design feature about this machine is that it is direct drive and does not
require a main motor belt. Video and Audio heads have been cleaned and
demagnetized as have all the parts in the transport. We also
replaced the 'Load / Eject' tape as well as the tape transport 'loop' belt. All
RCA I/O port jacks re-soldered for solid connection.
We have tested the transport in
both playback and record modes. All works great. Probably one of the best
performing decks we have ever had in either speed, but especially fabulous in
Beta II speed. Tracking responds as it should. Will also play tapes made from "BetaMovie"
video cameras.

Unit
now works great after restoration. All functions work well. We did test
recordings and played a number of tapes completely following refurb. Tuner
function untested as it's analog
and since 2010 obsolete. Looks near new. Again,
this deck plays back very well. Would make a great deck for as video transfer
business tool!
Measures 17.5" wide x 15" deep x
6.5" high and weighs 22 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 30
day video limited warranty.

VCR-4020 Beta / Betamax VCR. We have completely gone through this unit,
cleaning inside and out, including the heads and transport, however it still
has an issue with lines of distortion in it's video playback. Adjusting the
tracking both internally then externally with the control does not make it
"go away" completely. Loads, Ejects, FF & Rew fine. We reconditioned the
rubber pinch roller and replaced the internal belts. We checked all heads /
tape path for azimuth, adjusting where necessary. We also checked for
excessive Wow & Flutter in the sound. The replaced and reconditioned rubber
took care of any issues there. We also de-magnetized the heads and entire
transport. Fixed the typical "sluggishness" of 20+ year old VCR's FF and
Rew. All lamps and displays function fine. Beta II & III speeds in mono
sound. Tracking adjustment. Unfortunately it is
still distorted on
playback. All the mechanics seem to work fine. We don't have the resources
to pursue it any further, than just the basic bench check we've done.

Selling for repair,
parts or Prop use. Does power up. Had all internal belts melted from age. We
replaced them all with new, but the drive switch is not shutting off
when loading a tape, so it continues to run. We removed the belt for the
tape pull drive. VCR lights up and clock sets. Looks good with normal, minor
wear. May be an easy fix, but we assume it will be sought
after only for prop use so we didn't go further with it.

NEAR NEW looking, Front-Loading, Dual-speed (Beta II & Beta III), Sony SL-25
Beta VCR. Unfortunately this machine has load issues. It will load, (with
some internal help) and sometimes wrap the tape through the tape path, but
then immediately rejects and ejects. May be electronic problem or just an
issue from sitting around un-used for so long. We did not go any further
with work on it. Too many other "fish to fry". Cosmetically near new condition.
