DYNACO
PAT-4
STEREO PRE-AMPLIFIER
"FACTORY WIRED VERSION"
#...0948
MADE IN THE USA!
Circa 1967-73
for
sale
Our
technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit
cleaning contacts, controls and pots. Pots and
switches are all super high quality. All functions tested perfectly.
All original knobs intact and no bent control shafts.
__________________________________
One of the classic, "old standby's" of the audio world. The Dynaco
PAT-4 Pre-Amp. Brushed aluminum face with matching "milled" look
knobs. This is also a VERY WELL DESIGNED & BUILT unit:
Dynaco Pat-4 features:
- Separate L & R, Bass and Treble
- Stereo-Mono switches to provide A or B channels independently or
combined (A+B) with 6 dB blend for 3rd channel output
- L / R Balance
- Tape Monitor input as well as Tape Head input for earlier tape
decks (can also be used for Video / CD / DVD / VCR / DAT / MP3 / XM
/ SIRIUS etc. as well as for CDR)
- Phono input
- Tuner input (can also be used for Video / CD / DVD / VCR / DAT /
MP3 / XM / SIRIUS etc. as well as for CDR)
- High filter switch @ 15 KHz, 10 KHz, and 7 KHz
- Low Filter selector
- SPARE (AUX) input for (CD / DVD /DAT / iPod / VCR / MP3 / XM /
SIRIUS etc. inputs)
- RCA outputs for feeding power amp
- 4 AC convenience outlets on rear panel (2 switched and 2
un-switched)
Dynaco Pat-4 Original Specs:
Frequency Response: High level inputs - ±0.5 dB from
10 Hz to 100 KHz,
Low level inputs - ±1 dB from 20 Hz to 20 KHz
Distortion at rated 2 volt output: THD less than 0.05% 20 Hz to
20 KHz IM less than 0.05% with any combination of test frequencies
Hum and Noise: Magnetic Phono: 70 dB below a 10 mV reference

Phono: 54 dB at 1000 Hz High Level: 20 dB
Tone Control Range: ±16 dB at 50 Hz ±12 dB at 10 KHz
Maximum Output: 10 volts into high impedance; 5 volts into
600 Ω .
Impedances: Magnetic Phono: 47,000 Ω
Tape Head: 100,000 Ω
High level: 100,000 Ω
Audio Output: 600 Ω
To Tape: From low level inputs, 600 Ω . From high level
inputs, same as source
Amplifier input: Nominal load 10,000 Ω or higher
Inputs: Low level or high level RIAA magnetic phono or
ceramic phono NAB 7-1/2" tape head Special (normally microphone)
Tape amplifier, Tuner, Spare high level, or TV, etc.
Front panel high level Outputs: Tape input ahead of controls;
2 Audio outputs (one switched by front panel jack)
This was from Dynaco's first series of solid-state audio components.
Again, we have completely gone through the unit. One note about
Dynaco Pat-4 pre amps is that, like a few other 'vintage' units, is
due to the close proximity of the input jacks, you will need to
utilize fairly 'normal' jacketed RCA connectors, as there is not
enough room to 'squeeze' some of the 'fatter' RCA jacks (usually
seen on 'high end' 'interconnects'). Following
the above listed service, functions have been tested and pass
with flying colors! Cosmetically, about
the only other issue is that the face panel has
most of the word "POWER" for the
'On-Off' switch, that was silk-screened on
it rubbed off. Pre-amp looks decent and
sounds great. Includes an 'e-copy' pdf download of the Dynaco PAT-4
owners / users / instruction manual.
Unit
measures 13.5" wide x 9" deep x 4.5" high and weighs ~4 lbs
unpacked. Includes our standard 30 day limited warranty.

It's dead silent! This is one of the most 'famous' power amplifiers
ever designed and sold. Originally co-designed by David Hafler
(always been a favorite amp engineer of mine). On our test bench, this particular Dynaco Stereo-150,
#...1155's amplifiers
produced 27.5+ Volts at 8 Ohms per channel for

Bias adjusted to 75mVDC.
Floor noise measured at L& R = > -60dBm
Dynaco amps have always been known for understated appearance and
performance. This was the replacement for the uber
famous, "ST-120" power amp. A bit more 'conventional' in appearance
and packaging, with an 'up' in power output. Excellent for 2-channel
(stereo) audio listening or for use in an A/V system or for driving
project studio monitors. From the original manual,
"The Stereo 150 has been designed
as two independent 75 watts (at 8 ohms) amplifying channels with a
common power supply having a high degree of inherent regulation. In
addition, where higher powers or higher volt-amp capabilities are
required for lower load impedances, easy internal re-strapping
permits monophonic operation for 150 watts output (at 8 ohms)."

Cosmetically it has a few 'battle scars', but
nothing too distracting (see photos above).
Only 'performance' issue to be aware of is that
Dynaco amps do not have 'relays' to block 'turn On / Off' thumps /
sounds, so at turn-on you will hear a bit of 'electronic noise' as
the circuits come to life, but nothing that is destructive. Unit looks,
works and sounds great! Again, while not much on cosmetics or 'button
features / whistles or bells' Dynaco amps are known for incredible
punch, headroom, and musicality. Includes an 'e-copy' pdf download of
the Dynaco Stereo 150 owners / users / instruction / assembly / service

B&K MULTI-CHANNEL AV2500 5-CHANNEL AUDIO / VIDEO POWER AMPLIFIER
#...4826 Circa 1995
"WORLD
AC POWER"
™
MADE IN USA
for sale
We have complete gone through this unit and bench checked / tested
it. Amp has been cleaned inside and out. All input
level pots cleaned for static free performance. Internals inspected,
transformer secondary's tested and our technician has completely
Certified this
amp. All functions have been tested and
pass with flying colors! Amp designed using Huge 'Torroidal'
Power Supply Transformer.
Super quality all around. From the original OM, "The
high quality parts complement include state-of-the-art solid state
devices, 1% metal film
resistors, computer grade electrolytic power supply capacitors, and a
high capacity toroidal transformer". All
5 inputs and all 5 outputs
tested and both side produces clean and even
sine waves! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! Following
restoration procedures, we burned it in, in the shop at continuous high
volume for 4 hours straight and it functioned flawlessly. On our test bench,
each
of this particular unit's (#...4826)
FIVE (5) amplifiers produced
21.2 Volts at 8 Ohms per
channel for 56 Watts / channel and
17.7 Volts at 4 Ohms per channel for
78 Watts / channel
(4 Ohm operation not recommended) via discrete output transistors (5x
LM3886T. (Idle AC
current draw @ .38A.
DC offset / out <2mV
each channel. Great condition, late model,
5-Channel power amp by B&K. Model
B&K AV2500. VERY versatile
unit. 5-inputs and 5 outputs, Stereo and Mono Line outputs, bridge-able
and more. Excellent for feeding multiple rooms
/ speaker systems or for use in
an A/V system. Lots of punch and headroom. Features: -
5- Channel operation -
5 Discrete inputs and 5 Discrete outputs -
'Bridge-able' into ONE big power amp - Built-in Protection circuit - LED Status indicators - RCA input jacks - Oversize
torroidal power supply transformer
- Heavy duty binding posts (can use 'single' bananas,
but not standard banana pair spacing) - Gold Plated Connectors - Improve connections for better sound and
minimized signal loss and degradation. - 1% Metal Film Resistors - Low noise resistors for better sound and a
greater degree of repeatability. - High Current - Ability to reproduce demanding recordings. - Computer Grade Capacitors - Large capacity computer grade electrolytic
capacitors for extended low frequency control and improved dynamics. - Protection from accidental shorting of output devices and protection from thermal overload. -
Externally located 'mains' fuse - 5-24VDC Control input voltage and 12VDC control voltage output (comes
with 'shorting' cable to enable amp function without any corresponding
control voltage in.) -
True "WORLD
AC POWER"™
allows unit to be operated on 50 or 60 Hz AC and will select voltages
from 110v, 120v, 220v and 240 Volts AC input.
Also from the OM:
"The most obvious function for the
AV2500 series II is to take five separate audio inputs and provide five separate amplified outputs. Your AV2500 series II has arrived set up in this configuration.
- With the inputs buffered, a line output (OUT BUS) may be taken from either the L BUS, R BUS, or L+R BUS and sent on to another amplifier. This allows for linking of multiple amplifiers. - Continuing its versatility, the AV2500 series II may be used mono to provide one, high current channel in order to drive a speaker requiring more power. - As a result of the AV2500 series II’s unique bus system, the input to channels 4 and 5 may be inverted thereby allowing the possibility of creating a single high voltage (bridged) channel from one source,
through the left bus."
Many more features, listed in the user manual, way
too numerous to mention.
Original B&K AV2500 Specifications
(2500II specs, but essentially the same amp):

Amp designed using Huge, Toroidal Power Supply Transformer,
Dual power supply and super
quality (expensive) filter caps. Huge, vertically
finned heat sink for very efficient and silent, passive cooling
of output devices (all amps / receivers should be designed this
way). This amplifier is in both great electronic and physical
shape. Looks LIKE NEW and sounds fantastic! All inputs tested
and both side produces clean and even sine waves! No power
supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent! Following restoration
procedures, we burned it in, in the shop at continuous high
volume for 8 hours straight and it functioned flawlessly.
Technician's note:
"VERY good build
quality"
On our test bench, this unit's (#...13427) amplifiers produced
30 Volts at 8 Ohms per channel for 112 Watts / channel and 27
Volts at 4 Ohms per channel for 182 Watts / channel via discrete,
Mosfet output transistors;
4x IRFP240 & 4x IRFP9240 (DC
offset adjusted to
0mV (as in "ZERO" per channel!!!). Floor noise
>-60dBm. Idle AC current draw @ .550A)
Great "general purpose" power amp for a variety of consumer and
Pro-Audio applications. Super quiet operation and build quality.
We run this amp in our main demo system and have for
a few weeks now and Love it!!! Great for full range stereo speakers, Studio
Monitors, home audio, practice PA etc.
For you 'tech-savvy' types, here's an excerpt from the original
manual regarding amp design:
"Low number
of gain stages improves signal reproduction accuracy"..."Custom
toroidal power transformer provides better regulation and
greater peak current capability"..."Large, internal heatsinks
for greater cooling capability of output devices".
The final output stage uses multiple lateral,
Precision Matched, MOSFET’s (Metal
Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors): four devices per
channel in the GFA-5300. These devices, unlike conventional bipolar
transistors, have a negative temperature coefficient, which
means that they do not exhibit “thermal runaway”. Thermal
runaway is a phenomenon whereby a transistor heats up as it
conducts more current, which causes it to get hotter, and
conduct more current, and so on, until the device
self-destructs. Since MOSFET’s are inherently self-protecting,
no sonically degrading, complex circuitry is required to monitor
and protect the output devices.
Furthermore, these lateral MOSFET’s exhibit a very linear input
to output transfer function. Their connection in circuits and
operating characteristics are very similar to vacuum tubes,
which is perhaps responsible for their widely recognized sonic
trait of being very “musical” and non-fatiguing.
ADCOM GFA-5300 FEATURES:
1)-
Dual Power Supply
4)- Discrete,
Precision Matched, MOSFET Output transistors
2)- 40,000
μF of power supply
filter capacitance with low ESR
8)- Custom
toroidal
power transformer
- Two Channel, Class A-B architecture
3)- Very Large internal heatsinks to keep the
outputs cool with matching bottom and top plate louvers to
facilitate air flow
- Silicone output insulators instead of typical 'white paste'
1-8)- Super Quality internal
construction methods
6)- Internally wired with
heavy gauge wire
5)- All, proper,
'old-school' components inside. NO anemic, low current SMD
parts!
- 'Soft Turn-On / Turn-Off' protection against "turn-on /
turn-off" transients
-
LED distortion detection indicators (Distortion Alert circuit is
a unique Adcom system which reads all forms of non-linear
distortion such as excessive THD, IM, Slew-induced, 'clipping'
etc. The LED's will react when any type reaches 1%)
- Thermal protection
for amplifier w/ LED indicators
7)-
Point to Point I/O jack wiring (not directly soldered to circuit
boards avoids flexing solder joints)
7)-
Gold Plated RCA input signal
jacks
7)-
Speaker outputs via 5-Way binding / banana posts
Cosmetically it's in decent shape. There's a
few tics / finish wear across the front edges, some scratches on
the top and one side, but nothing distracting, especially when
viewed from the front. Works and sounds great!
We've actually been using this amp on our shop audio system following it's bench service for a couple
months and it's performed flawlessly (in fact, once it sells,
not sure what we're going to put in it's place that will test
speakers so well).

DYNACO STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER DYNACO "STEREO 120" POWER AMP
#...7923 Circa 1969-78 MADE IN U.S.A.
for sale Our
technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit.
Output transistor removed and tested
independently. Multiple Electrolytic Caps checked for
ESR, capacitance and leakage and passed. New, 3-Prong / Grounded AC
cord installed (had previously been re-located to rear of unit
(instead of the front position by design). Unit bench checked / tested.
All functions have been
tested and pass with flying colors! Both inputs tested and both side
produces clean and even sine waves! No power supply hum of any kind.
It's dead silent! Total tech time invested ~7.5
hours. This is one of the most 'famous' power amplifiers ever designed and
sold. Originally co-designed by David Hafler (always been a favorite amp
engineer of mine), they have been the 'heart' of many audio systems
since the late '60's. On our test bench, this particular Dynaco Stereo-120,
#...7923's amplifiers
produced 21 Volts at 8 Ohms per channel for
55 Watts / channe via discrete, metal
cased, TO-3 output transistors.
While we did test this unit down to 4 Ohms, it is not particularly
stable that low on a 'static load', but was fine at 6 Ohms. (Idle AC current draw @ 0.4A.
DC less <3.5mVDC / Ch (under 8 Ohm load). Floor noise measured at L& R =
~2.0mVAC) Dynaco amps have always been known for understated appearance and
performance. While they were never much on looks or 'whistles and
bells', they made up for that in performance. Excellent for 2-channel
(stereo) audio listening or for use in an A/V system or for driving
project studio monitors. DYNACO
STEREO-120 Features: - 2-Channel stereo, Class A/B operation - Standard RCA input jacks - Oversize power supply transformer and capacitors - 3-Way, Binding post speaker jacks - AC / MAINS protection fuse

and it gets our full 'Certification'.
This power amp should be used with 6 Ohms or
greater speaker load. While the Nickel / chrome plating does have a
'tarnished' look (that doesn't want to come off) it is in overall
good shape with very little of the common, actual surface pitting / corrosion / rust. Perforated,
top cover also rust and dent free. Unit looks,
works and sounds great! Again, while not much on cosmetics or 'button
features / whistles or bells' Dynaco amps are known for incredible
punch, headroom, and musicality. Includes an 'e-copy' pdf download of
the Dynaco Stereo 120 owners / users / instruction / assembly / service
manual (which is actually an 'amazing read' and should probably be read
by anyone using / owning ANY amplifier from ANY brand and ANY model!
Just FYI). Unit measures 10.5" wide x 13" deep x 4" high and weighs 20 lbs
unpacked. Includes our 30 day limited warranty. DYNACO STEREO 120, 2-CHANNEL STEREO POWER AMP Cond. 8

If you’re thinking of adding
subwoofer(s) to your audio system, a “SA Series” subwoofer amp
by RBH, is not only one of the easiest ways, but also a great
ROI from a performance standpoint. I am blown away by how well
these work. I’ve tried them on numerous subs (including in my
small-medium PA system). These amps have a lot of punch and
guts! Very practical, versatile, and easy to control. Allows you
to squeeze out every ounce of performance from your sub system.
Numerous ways to connect, but feel free to call to find out if
you can connect to your system, or what would be the best way to
utilize it.
This is a great subwoofer amp. I tested
it extensively. Didn't actually know you could get something
like this that wasn't a 'plate amp'. Actually thinking of
keeping this one as an amp for my live music sub.

Tech notes: "Good build quality" Great "Subwoofer" power amp for a variety
of consumer and Pro-Audio applications. Super quiet operation and
build quality.
Real Class-A/B architecture and discrete output transistors.
If you’re thinking of adding
subwoofer(s) to your audio system, a “SA Series” subwoofer amp by RBH,
is not only one of the easiest ways, but also a great ROI from a
performance standpoint. I am blown away by how well these work. I’ve
tried them on numerous subs (including in my small-medium PA system).
These amps have a lot of punch and guts! Very practical, versatile, and
easy to control. Allows you to squeeze out every ounce of performance
from your sub system. Numerous ways to connect, but feel free to call to
find out if you can connect to your system, or what would be the best
way to utilize it.
This is a great subwoofer amp. I tested it
extensively. Didn't actually know you could get something like this that
wasn't a 'plate amp'. Actually thinking of keeping this one as an amp
for my live music sub.
RBH SA200 FEATURES:
- REAL CLASS A/B Amp design -
Discrete output transistors - Variable crossover from 40-180Hz - Line-Level or 'Speaker' level inputs - Line level pass through
at 'Full-Range' (same as what came in) - Speaker Level pass through that has a built-in 'High-Pass' filter for
everything above 100Hz!!! - "Boost" increases volume at 25Hz by 4dB (be careful when selecting this as
"4dB" is more than a doubling of power output at those freqs!)
- Phase selectable for either
0°
or 180° - 'Stand-by' power mode with 'auto-detect' for audio signals (means that the
amp can be left powered on, but goes into 'sleep' mode. When an audio signal
is detected, it automatically powers up. Very handy as you don't have to
worry about your 'Turn-On / Turn-Off' sequence)
- Variable
Input "Master Volume" Level control (front panel) - Vertically mounted
heat sinks -
Gold Plated RCA signal I/O's
and Speaker posts - Speaker
inputs and outputs via, heavy-duty, 3-Way binding / banana posts
- Dimmer located on rear panel for somewhat over zealous
'front' LED's - External Mains protection fuse
-
True "WORLD
AC POWER"™
allows unit to be operated on 50 or 60 Hz AC and will select voltages
from 110v, 120v, 220v and 240 Volts AC input.

Did you know?
THD
(Total Harmonic Distortion) – THD is a measure of the how much a given
audio device may distort a signal through the inevitable introduction of
added harmonics or overtones. These figures are usually given as
percentages. THD figures below approximately 1% are inaudible to most
people (although market promotion efficiencies have 'brain-washed' much
of the 'audio-public' into weighting low THD with almost 'holy grail'
importance. I remember some manufacturers touting numbers as low as
<0.003% in the early Eighties). Low THD is not always an indication of
a high quality amplifier. In fact, it is / was more commonly just the
opposite. Some of the 'highest end' (read REALLY expensive) and
certainly best sounding units will have distortions somewhere between
.1% & 1%. Low THD is only a simple 'bi-product' of 2 aspects. The first was an
inordinate and increasing amount of 'global / negative feedback' built
into amplifiers primarily to suppress distortion. This practice started
to occur in the late 1970's and certainly was in 'full force' past the
early 1980's for most 'main stream' consumer-grade audio amplifiers.
Unfortunately this also 'suppressed' tone and 'punch' (musicality) but
it made the numbers look good to the 'spoon fed' consumer (kind of like
overly high speaker wattage numbers, and sorry if you're in that group
and, most folks were so you're not alone). Secondly manufacturers were
moving away from 'discrete-transistor' output designs to more
'monolithic' 'power-pack' output designs. While these designs reduced
power supply requirements, thus reducing parts costs and weight (also
translates to lower prices due to savings on freight from Asia) they
generally sounded anywhere from somewhat 'anemic' compared with the
designs from a few years previous, to completely 'gutless' and
'un-musical'. But, hey,… they had very low distortion figures….Can
anyone say 'threw the baby out with the bath water'?

PM645 VXi-II
Integrated Amplifier. Loaded with 'usable' features. Great unit
to provide the heart of a medium to mid-large sized Hi-Fi system. Unit
looks decent, works and sounds great!
Designed around 'HCC' (High-instantaneous
Current Capability) architecture. From the owners manual;
"Studies have shown that while
reproducing dynamic music signals the instantaneous impedances
of nearly all loudspeakers drop to less than one third of the
nominal ratings. These low, instantaneous mipedances typically
require 3 to 6 times more current than an 8 Ohm, 'resistive'
load. Reduced dynamic range and increased distortion will result
if the amplifier cannot provide these higher currents. For this
reason, the PM645 was designed to provide 30 Amperes of
instantaneous current."
Harman / Kardon

This Fisher CA-283, Integrated Amplifier, like
all of it's siblings we've done, seemed like a 'sleeper' when
we originally acquired it. Then we did our
preliminary tests and quickly changed our opinion.
Once our tech got finished with it, we were thoroughly surprised and
impressed. It has a lot of punch and headroom (check our bench test
results above against it's original specs) and is VERY MUSICAL
sounding.
While it's got a few 'battle scars' (see photos above), they of
course don't affect it's spectacular performance.

Pre-amp / control center. This is 'one quiet' pre-amp. 'Cross

Great, later model, and BIG WATTAGE power amp
by Kenwood. Model 'Basic M2'. HUGE power
output! Excellent for 2-channel (stereo) audio listening
in a medium-large to larger stereo system, or
for use in an A/V system. Lots of punch and headroom.
Kenwood
BASIC M2 Features:
- True DUAL power supplies (yes, TWO HUGE, copper
shielded
transformers inside) and Elna brand capacitors
-
*SIGMA
DRIVE amplifier.
(Hey, it's complicated but is what
accounts for the specs listed below. Here's a link to a very 'readie and
technical' pdf you can digest at your leisure:
http://www.cieri.net/Documenti/Kenwood/Documenti%20tecnici/Kenwood%20-%20Sigma-Drive%20Technical%20Guide.pdf
- Old Skoool Class A/B amplifier design (NO Digital here!) - 2- Channel stereo operation -
Off or A or B or A+B
speaker selector via high current relay - Dual, Vertical, 7-Segment LED Power Output Meters with Dual Position
Level Selector and Peak Hold with selectable "Hold
Time" - Built-in, INDEPENDANT Protection circuit
relays for each, separate channel - Large current resistors in the power amp section - LED Status indicators - Front-mounted 1/4" stereo headphone jack - RCA input jacks
- Fan / Induction cooling (quiet though)
- Dual, vertical finned internal heat sink - 3 Rear-mounted AC convenience outlets (2 switched and 1 un-switched
for a total capacity of 500 Watts)
(not included in the total power consumption spec) Kenwood
BASIC M2
Original Specs:

THD" Design type:
2 Channels, AB operation
Slew Rate: 100
Volts / μsec (that's pretty darn fast)
Rise Time: 100
Volts / μsec (and that's pretty darn quick)
Damping Factor: >1000 @ 50Hz / 8 ohms
(I've never heard of a "damping factor" that high, but I double checked
the specs listed in both the OM and SM. A damping factor that high and
it's VERY high 'Slew Rate', and fast "Rise Time" makes for some
seriously 'tight' bass!!!...still not quite believing it. I sold pro
audio amps for years, and I don't remember any of them coming close to
that) Signal / Noise: 120dB A weighted (about as
good as it can get!) Rated RMS Output:
200 Watts per
channel, min. RMS, @ 8Ω, both channels driven, from 20Hz to 20kHz. Music Power 250 Watts + 250 Watts
Output
at initial clip: 242 Watts per

Potential Frequency Response:

(essentially "DC")-200kHz
+0dB / -3dB Input Sensitivity: 1V
/ 47KOhms
Potential Power Consumption:
1350 Watts (that's more
than your blow dryer or your bathroom heater!!!) Again, as stated before, our technician has completely refurb'd this
Kenwood Basic M2, stereo Power-Amp, cleaning
and testing all and it gets our full 'Certification'.
Cosmetically there's just a few minor scuffs / tics
on the front panel, and a narrow scuff on the meter window (see photos
above). Great 'all around' power amp for about any audio system. We have sold
MANY of this series of Kenwood power amps over the past 2+ decades,
with never a complaint. If you're looking for about as much REAL power in
a home audio amp that you can get, this is one of the top candidates.
Includes an 'e-copy' pdf download of the Kenwood
Basic M2 owners / users / instruction manual.
Unit looks, works and sounds great! Unit measures 17.25"
wide x 14.75" deep x
7.25" high and
weighs a heavy 34+ lbs unpacked. Includes our
standard 30 day limited warranty. KENWOOD BASIC M2 Cond. 8.5++

72+ hours.
Very quiet. All functions operating perfectly. No
power supply hum electrically or machanically. Total restoration time investment
10+
hours. You will not be disappointed.
Very
sought after for 'Spec
Racks', the classic Pioneer Spec-1 pre-amplifier. Spec-1 preamps are
the heart and 1st main building block for any, proper, Pioneer SPEC
rack. Made to mate up with Pioneer's Spec-2 or Spec-4 power amps (or
both as it has dual outputs).
Cosmetically it's in BEAUTIFUL
condition
with nothing really worth mentioning.
All internal wiring very neatly routed and loomed.
All internal
potentiometers and 'Step attenuators' ALPS brand. All circuit boards
very clean with no corrosion or evidence of bad or amateur
re-soldering. All internal metal clean with no corrosion. Looks
virtually NEW inside!
From the tech notes;
"VERY clean inside. Probably spent most of
it's life in the western US away from humid environments".
From the original brochure;
"EQ and Control Amplifier both designed with 3-stage,
direct-coupled, Class-A 'SEPP' with 1st stage differential
amplifier".
Does not appear to have every been rack mounted so no 'rack rash'
around the mounting holes of the face plate.
With the exception of a small area on the rack handles, none of
what's becoming very common 'Pioneer Green' corrosion.
Pioneer SPEC-1 Pre-Amp Features and
'Creature Comforts' include:
- All internal potentiometers and 'Step
attenuators' ALPS brand
- Speaker
Selector (we know, preamps are not supposed to have
speaker selectors on them, but we'll explain how that works below) - Subsonic filter built-in for cutting turntable
rumble
selectable CUT-OFF at 15Hz, 30 Hz or Off
- High filter for reducing tape hiss, tuner
broadcast hiss, hiss from poorly recorded YouTube / TV videos or any
'electronic hiss)
selectable 8kHz, 12kHz or Off
- Huge fixed
Resistor, De-tented volume control (no typical "dirty
volume pot" to ever have to worry about).
-
Tone Bypass
switch for purest audio signal path if so desired
- 4-band Eq /
Tone control using fixed resistor pre-sets. (No
potentiometer tracks to get dirty and wear out)
Bass

Mid Bass

Mid-highs

Processors, Noise Reduction units, Special Effects units, Time Delays,

pre-amps and
with Phono "2" having an infinitely variable attenuator selectable
from 0 to -12dB level - Tuner input (may also be used for Video / CD / DVD / LD / VCR / DAT /

- Mic input
featuring Mic Mixing control, On-Off and front located 1/4" input jack
(great for DJ / Karaoke use - watch those
'Home Audio' grade speakers
with an open mic)
- Stereo Mode
selector for Normal, Reverse & Mono
- Instant
volume Attenuator (Muting) selectable for 0, -15 or -30 dB
(especially useful for 'fine tuning' the graduations in Volume Level
as this unit is designed with a '3dB/Step' volume attenuator instead
of a standard 'carbon trace pot'). - Front mounted 1/4" stereo headphone jack
(only energized if speaker outputs from a power amp are connected)
- Rack Mount
front plate with handles (designed for standard 19"
EIA racks).
- Rear panel features full RCA patch bay for all inputs (each 'fastened
separately' to the rear panel, and 'point to point' wired internally,
instead of being soldered directly to the circuit board, which is always
a 'failure point').
- Dual ground
lugs
- Power amp speaker connectors for A

selector and headphone use - 5 AC
convenience outlets; 3x Switched and 2x un-switched AC outlets for a maximum load of

From the original Pioneer SA-6500-II Brochure;
"Bass Frequencies Sweet and Clean. The many
refinements in the SA-6500-II include a constant-current load
construction in the 'pre-driver' stage of the power amplifier. This
helps eliminate a time constant at low frequency so that sound quality
remains un-muddied and sweet over the whole audible spectrum....Further
the power output is enhanced with a power supply using a larger
transformer and a pair of 6,800uF, Electrolytic Capacitors for excellent
Voltage Regulation so that low-range dynamics never suffer power drain"
(means tighter, deeper and 'thumpier' bass!)
Again, we have completely gone through the unit cleaning all contacts,
pots, switches and controls as mentioned above.
All functions test as
original. Simple to use. Unit performs and sounds great! Other
than a few typical, light scuffs / striations on the sheet metal bonnet,
nothing really worth mentioning cosmetically. Unit looks great! Comes with an 'e-copy', PDF download of the
Pioneer SA-6500-II owners / users / instruction manual, brochure and the service
manual if the purchaser desires.
Measures 15" wide

This is first and only one Realistic SA-2001
we've had in 23 years. Very elegant, brushed
aluminum face plate with the original aluminum knobs. Following
8+ hours of restoration procedures, the unit
was ran continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers
are, into a 4 Ohm load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10
for 48 hours. Total technician time to restore
8
hours. (Tech noted on work sheet, "VERY nice build quality inside and
out. Mint condition")
On our test bench the internal amplifiers of this particular unit,
#...0222, produced 22
Volts per channel at 8 ohms for 60 Watts per
channel and 20 Volts at 4 ohms for 100 Watts per channel via discrete,
TO-3 / Metal Cased outputs (Sanken
2SC1116) (test at 1kHz, single channel at a
time). Idle current draw 0.3A. Very quiet with Floor noise measured
@ >74dBm. ____________________________
According to an
original catalog,
"Our finest
amplifier ever! For those who demand maximum control over their system,
it has tuner, aux and two phono inputs, plus dubbing and monitoring
facilities for two tape decks. In addition, you get the loudness
compensation system so highly acclaimed by a major audio magazine!
Exclusive Perfect Level" makes our Perfect Loudness system adjustable to
any listening level so that the "boominess" so often heard with ordinary
loudness systems is eliminated" It actually was their 'top of the line' integrated amp ever.
After 1979, they did no more integrated amps above a few Watts known as
their "Mini" systems.
This was the 'TOPL' Integrated amp Realistic ever did
(and the last of their 'real' component amps. After that they went to
their 'micro/ mini' series with just a few Watts).
VERY elegant looking unit,
with a classy, brushed aluminum face, and a 'REAL'
wood veneer bonnet.
This is the first one we've had in 24+ years of having the website.
Just the right features & sonically magnificent! Great amp for home or
project recording studio use.

Realistic SA-2001 Integrated Stereo Amplifier,
cleaning and testing all and it gets our full 'Certification'.
Entire unit, including the original brushed aluminum, Face and knobs are
in beautiful condition.
Cosmetically, with the exception of some minor 'tics'
on the face, and along the top 'side edge' of the wood case and a few, old scratches from
other gear sitting on top in the past (only really
noticeable when looking 'down from above' the unit. Lemon oil pretty
much hides them from being distracting) the tuner looks
great (see photos above).
Unit looks beautiful and sounds great with what
the restoration tech called "Gutsy" power & punch!

the best looking integrated amps {and tuners} we've come across in over
4 decades of dealing in audio gear. If it were mine and not a

This is a very 'musical' sounding integrated amplifier. Very
'punchy' with great detail across the audio spectrum. You can really
appreciate the 'discrete' outputs over more modern amplifier
architecture with 'chip / STK / Darlington' type outputs, or as my
tech wrote on the service work sheets,
"Clean, symmetrical Sine waves. Well balanced output signals left
and right...Great Old School sound...Old School Serviceability".
Again as stated earlier, the Amp has had our standard FULL SERVICE
inside and out including cleaning all control pots and contacts,
replacing any necessary parts, and completely tested. All functions
have been tested and passed with flying
colors! Face and knobs are in excellent
condition with only a few, very minor striations.

We've had three of these, and got over
'being surprised' by their performance. This Fisher CA-271, Integrated
Amplifier was a 'sleeper' when we originally acquired it. We
thought they were too 'recent' to bother with, but then we did
our preliminary tests and quickly changed our opinion. Once our
tech got finished with it, we were thoroughly surprised and
impressed. They always have a lot of punch and headroom (check our bench
test results above against it's original specs) and
are VERY
MUSICAL sounding. Large internal power
supply, relative to most amps in it's range. Unit looks good with minor, typical wear, mostly to edges.
Nothing distracting.

Great, late 1980's model power amp by Yamaha. The Model M-45.
BIG power output! Excellent for 2-channel (stereo) audio
listening or for use in an A/V system to power additional Front
or Rear channel speakers. Enough power to also work as a project
recording studio / band practice power amp as they are more
stable at lower impedances than most (if used professionally,
would be advisable to use a cooling fan). Lots of punch and
headroom. I was a Yamaha dealer when this model was current and
made lots of very happy Yamaha power amp owners with this model
and it's flanking siblings.
Yamaha M-45 Features:
- Class "A/B" or " Auto-Class A" selectable modes
- 2- Channel stereo operation
- A / B speaker selector via high current relay
- Dual, Vertical, 10-Segment LED Power Output Meters
- Built-in Protection circuits
- 24 Karat Gold plated input jacks to remain corrosion free,
thus insuring the best audio signal transfer.
- Oversize power supply transformer with dual 22,000 uf / 69-Volt filter
caps built by Nichicon exclusively for Yamaha, and heavy duty
bridge rectifier with oversize heat sink
- Dual, vertically finned, unfinished aluminum, internal heat sinks for
very efficient heat transfer / evacuation and completely vented
from bottom thru top for maximum cooling (all electronics
manufacturers should do this as well)
- True "WORLD
AC POWER"™
allows unit to be operated on 50 or 60 Hz AC and will select
voltages from 110v, 120v, 220v and 240 Volts AC input.
- Rear-mounted AC convenience outlet with a capacity of 200 Watts

This Fisher CA-276, Integrated
Amplifier was a 'sleeper' when we originally acquired it. We thought
it would be too 'recent' to bother with, but then we did our
preliminary tests and quickly changed our opinion.
It's got a massive power supply transformer, with
'forced air / Wind-Tunnel' cooling via temp controlled electric fan.
Once our tech got finished with it, we were thoroughly
surprised and impressed. It has a lot of punch and headroom (check
our bench test results above against it's original specs) and is
VERY MUSICAL sounding. Monstrous internal power supply, relative to
most amps in it's range. Not that I place a lot of stock in specs,
take a look at them. They're all around impressive. This was a
'Military / PX' / 'Euro / Asia' market unit and was not readily
available in North America. While it's got a few
'battle scars' (see photos above), they of course don't affect it's
spectacular performance. ____________________________
Fisher CA-276 Features include:
- Eight 'Discrete'
output transistors for lot's of punch and tone!!!!
- 4-Way Built-in Protection - Internal Cooling Fan comes on when internal temperature reaches
85° Celsius - 2-Band, Quasi-Parametric EQ (enables a cool 'Wah-Wah' filter
effect by rapidly sliding the 'frequency' control) - Infinitely variable ‘Turn-Over’ frequencies for both Bass and
Treble - ‘EQ Defeat’ for purest signal path and most un-adulterated sound
- Independent speaker selector switches for A, B, A+B, Off - Phono / Turntable input with Built-In Phono Pre-Amp - ‘Tape-2’ is a 'TRUE' tape monitor
(Tape Monitors can be used with Tape decks such as Cassette Tape
Recorders/ Players, Reel to Reel's, 8-Track Tape Cartridge Decks,
Video / CD / DVD / VCR / DAT / MP3 / iPod® / iPad® / iPhone® /

‘Tape Input’ and not a ‘Tape Monitor / Loop’ it CANNOT BE USED for
inserting signal processors, such as EQ's, Reverbs, Spatial

turntables - Pre-Out / Power-Amp-In Loop - Front mounted, ¼”, Stereo headphone jack - Heavy Duty Speaker Binding Posts

Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit
cleaning contacts, controls and pots.
ü
Amp has been cleaned inside
and out.
ü
All inputs tested and both side produces
clean and even sine waves!
ü
All functions have been tested and pass with flying colors!
ü
This
amplifier is in both great electronic and physical shape.
ü
No power supply hum of any kind. It's
dead silent!
ü
Following restoration procedures, we burned it in, in
the shop at continuous high volume for 8 hours straight and it
functioned flawlessly.
Looks great and sounds fantastic!
On
our test bench, this unit's amplifiers produced 37 Volts at
8 Ohms per channel for
170+ Watts / channel and
35 Volts at 4 Ohms
per channel for 305+ Watts /
channel via discrete output transistors. (DC
offset measured at outputs at 1.1mVDC. Idle AC current draw @
.34A.) Great "Subwoofer" power amp for a variety
of consumer and Pro-Audio applications. Super quiet operation and
build quality. Class-G architecture, which is
great for 'lower frequencies' to get lots of power efficiently.
Externally located (gets the heat outside of the
cabinet where it belongs), vertically finned heat sink for
very efficient and silent, passive cooling of output devices
(all amps / receivers should be designed this way).
NHT SA-3 FEATURES:
- Class-G
(great for 'subwoofer' applications) -
Built-in Frequency
