How do I change the batteries in my Bluetooth® headset? / cell phone headset / disassembly / how to repair & replace or change the batteries. These are photo essays of our disassembly of Bluetooth headsets for battery replacement / general repair Bluetooth Cell Phone Headsets. We have a number of broken, non-working, older, tired Bluetooth® headsets (a number meaning about 30-40). Models such as BlueAnt Z9i, Jabra BT-, Jawbone, Motorola 520 etc.
This is simply what we found after personally disassembling a variety of Bluetooth® Cell Phone Headsets. We have a number of broken, non-working, older, tired Bluetooth® headsets (a number meaning about 30-40). Models such as BlueAnt Z9i, Jabra BT-250v, BT-530, Jawbone icon, Jawbone Prime, Jawbone 2, Motorola HC850, HC820, H700, H500 SYN1290A, H505, Motorokr S9-HD, Plantronics M2500 Explorer 210, Explorer 230, Explorer 320, Explorer 390, Voyager 520, Voyager 835, Voyager Pro and others. Many have worn out batteries. Some have broken ear clips and ear clip mounts, mic booms, ear piece / speakers, power / charging ports etc. They are generally NOT meant to be disassembled. There aren't really any serviceable parts inside and changing the battery on your Bluetooth®  headset isn't really possible. To enable so much technology in such a small package they use 'surface mount technology', which again is not generally serviceable, especially by an untrained user / non-technician. Also disassembly is usually 'messy' in that

you will likely mar, chip, break or otherwise destroy the headset / housing. We had hoped to discover the ability to find replacement batteries and service most of these. We typically refer to Batteries Plus® stores to source / build / re-build batteries, but even before we embarked on this project, they informed us that most of Bluetooth® headsets use a 'gel pack' / 3.75Volt, 0.54Wh, Lithium Ion Polymer / LI-Polymer / 'LIP' type battery (commonly built by 'SNYergy') that cannot be readily sourced (Motorola H500 uses battery model 79879-01). They also said that heating them either with a soldering iron, or even their official 'battery spot welder' will often result in the battery EXPLODING! Bottom line is keep soldering irons / spot welders or other 'heat sources' away from these batteries as they may explode. After disassembling a number of them, I

returned to a local Batteries Plus® store and once they saw them, confirmed that was the case with all the models we took in. No, we don't repair them, nor at this time know of anyone who does. Bottom line is, at this time, it isn't practical to change the batteries in your Bluetooth® headset.
So if you're a victim of "my Bluetooth® won't hold a charge", "my Bluetooth® headset's battery is dead", "my Bluetooth® died", or "I broke my Bluetooth®" then It appears that if your blue tooth headset breaks, requires repair, has a weak battery or simply dies, replacement with a new unit is likely the most practical and only cure. Sorry. I wish I had better news.

ATTENTION: We recommend you DO NOT DISASSEMBLE  or ATTEMPT TO REPAIR OR REPLACE OR CHANGE THE BATTERY on your Bluetooth®  headset!!!
