Our technician has completely gone through and 'Certified' this unit. Everything was cleaned inside and out including all switches, controls and contacts. Extensive cleaning of unit internally. Amplifier section had output bias and DC offset adjusted to spec levels. All dial, meter and indicator  lamps were replaced. We also aligned the tuner front-end on both AM & FM bands for optimum performance as older tuner components will have 'drifted' over the years. VERY GOOD TUNER! AM reception WAY above average, FM reception incredible, PUNCHY and IMPECCABLY CLEAN!!! Only cosmetic issues with this unit are scuffing on the right side / end of the unit and some scratches on the top bonnet and top edge of the face (only seen when looking 'down' on it from above). Following above procedures, all functions tested for perfect operation and unit was cosmetically detailed inside and out. All inputs tested and both sides produce clean and even sine waves into static 8 & 4 ohm loads! No power supply hum of any kind. It's dead silent!  All functions tested for perfect operation. Following restoration procedures, the unit was run continuously at medium volume, as all our amplifier / receivers are, into a load with "Loudness" on and both Tone Controls at 10 for 48 hours.
 

 On our test bench, each internal amplifier of this particular unit, #...4695, produced peak power of 34 volts @ 8Ω per channel for 144 watts / channel and 30 volts @ 4Ω per channel for 225 watts / channel via Discrete output devices at 1khz. (2X 2SD738 & 2X 2SB702). AC Idle current at .125A, & floor noise <0.4 mVAC and DC offset adjusted to a SUPER LOW <1.4mV L&R.

This series of receivers from JVC were always very impressive looking units and the JR-S501 is no exception. They definitely didn't "copy" anyone else in the industry for their design. The JVC JR-S501 is a 'Direct Coupled' amplifier, thus doesn't use 'coupling caps' on it's outputs. This means a number of HIGH QUALITY sonic benefits; reduces ALL types of distortion (without more neg feedback loop circuitry), wider bandwidth (0-100kHz), improves transient response (makes for much more 'solid' hitting and 'tighter' notes in music program) and eliminated 'colorization' (smearing) in your music.

Again, we have done the previously stated refurbishment / restoration work (~8+ hours) on this unit to insure it's performance, and it gets our full 'Certification'. All functions tested for perfect operation. Other than the previously mentioned scuffing / wear, this unit is in great cosmetic condition! Looks and sounds great! Really COOL looking when lit up at night or in a darkened room with green back lights! While we don't have a copy of the specific users manual for the JVC JR-S501, we will include an 'e' copy, pdf of it's little brother, the JVC JR-S401 receiver owners manual. Measures 22.25" wide x 6.5" tall x 17" deep and weighs an impressive 35 lbs unpacked. Includes our standard 90 day limited warranty.
